The dairy sector in Jharkhand holds immense potential to transform rural livelihoods, ensure nutritional security, and contribute to the state’s economic growth. Despite its favorable agro-climatic conditions and abundant livestock resources, dairy production in Jharkhand remains underdeveloped due to challenges such as low productivity, inadequate infrastructure, limited access to markets, and lack of modern farming practices. This study, titled “Pathways to Prosperity: Enhancing Dairy Production and Livelihoods in Jharkhand”, examines the current state of dairying in the region, identifies existing bottlenecks, and explores strategic interventions for sustainable growth. The research adopts a multi-dimensional approach, incorporating field surveys, secondary data analysis, and stakeholder consultations to assess the sector’s strengths and weaknesses. It emphasizes the need for integrated initiatives, including breed improvement, fodder availability, veterinary services, farmer training, and access to credit. Furthermore, the study highlights the role of cooperative models, digital tools, and cold chain infrastructure in bridging the gap between producers and markets. With the adoption of technology-driven solutions, policy support, and community participation, Jharkhand can significantly enhance milk productivity, improve farmer incomes, and promote women’s empowerment in rural areas. The findings underscore that dairy development can be a vital pathway to economic prosperity and social well-being, provided there is a coordinated effort from government agencies, private stakeholders, and the farming community. Ultimately, strengthening the dairy value chain can not only address local nutritional needs but also position Jharkhand as a competitive player in India’s dairy industry.
