The present study is based on a central idea that architecture and cinema share a practical concept grounded in space, which acts as an expressive medium for both disciplines. This occurs through deliberate procedures aimed at constructing, producing, and conveying meaning and significance to the recipient by employing subsidiary elements to fill that space, transforming it from a mere spatial text into a meaningful text that performs its functions through an intentional narrative pre-established for it.
The primary objective of the research is to uncover the symbolic potential inherent in form within the expressive text, both in its dramatic and architectural contexts.
In the first chapter, the research methodology and its theoretical foundations are presented, which clarify the necessity of the study. The second chapter, through its first section, investigates the mechanisms of interaction between the two mediums and highlights the importance and seriousness of the critical thought that views them as complementary discourses, both formally and substantively. The second section reveals the reality and actual extent of this interaction in practice, through the elements, signs, and patterns that demonstrate the idea of shared expression between them—an idea that has been effectively realized.
The applied chapter explores the implementation of these shared elements through selected samples from both fields, confirming conclusively that most of the elements are fundamentally the same, despite each medium maintaining its distinct and independent identity shaped by the nature of architecture and the nature of the dramatic image.
The fourth chapter presents the analytical results, which clarify the modalities of symbolic form within the filmic dramatic discourse, revealing its pre-existing expressive capacity that extends beyond mere aesthetic formality, enabling this interaction to generate new patterns of meaning.
The overall conclusions derived from the research naturally led to a set of proposals and recommendations that ensure the continued investigation into the depths of this interaction between the elements of the two narrative structures, as both stem from the diverse needs of human beings and move in alignment with those same needs.
