Domestic violence remains one of the gravest yet most underreported violations of human rights in modern India. Despite significant progress in legal reforms and social awareness, the deeply entrenched patriarchal structures continue to foster an environment where gender-based violence thrives. This paper critically examines the multifactorial causes of domestic violence, its physical, psychological, and socio-economic consequences, and evaluates existing and prospective remedial measures. Drawing from national and international data, the paper also brings into focus underrepresented groups such as men, children, and the elderly, challenging the gendered perceptions of domestic violence. The study advocates for systemic reform in education, legal protection, political representation, and public discourse to counteract domestic abuse comprehensively.
