Socio-Economic impact of education and employment preference: The Tangkhul Naga Tribe

Abstract:

This article attempts to explain the employment preference of the Tangkhul educated youth. It made an attempt to expound on the cause of the transition from the traditional employment in agriculture to other sector. The Tangkhul Naga tribe are traditionally engage in agriculture along with some supporting economic activities such as hunting, handicrafts, handloom, horticulture, animal raring, etc. But with the introduction of western education in 1896, there has been huge change in the employment preference among the educated and uneducated tribal youth. This change in employment preference has brought about a tectonic shift in the socio-economic life of the Tangkhuls.
