Deendayal Upadhyaya’s integral humanism: Implementation for social justice

Abstract:

Following the nation’s independence, Deendayal Upadhyaya created a set of ideas or an ideology about how society should be run known as integral humanism. Integral humanism is both a materialistic and a spiritual idea that explains how the government should in still values that the people share. Pandit Deendayal Upadhyay asserts that a person is made up of their body, mind, intellect, and soul. These four elements must be taken into account for a person’s overall growth. Satisfying these elements will lead to true happiness. For personal growth, we should not only prioritise material achievement but also spiritual advancement. This completion will result in taking some constructive actions for society as a whole. Because western political systems emphasise materialism and the well-being of the individual, Upadhyay has claimed that they cannot be accepted in their real form. The article will concentrate on Deendayal Upadhyaya’s theories on how integral humanism might lead to self-reliance.

In the 21st century, social justice has been a fundamental component of governmental programs in both industrialised and developing nations. It is now standard practice for governmental policy to be based on social justice ideas. In various ways, Indian political ideologues Deendayal Upadhyaya and Dr. Ambedkar worked to bring about justice in Indian society. According to Ambedkar, social justice is the collective expression of liberty, equality, and fraternity. According to him, these ideas ought to form the foundation of an ideal state. According to Deendayal Upadhyaya, the state and society should work together to meet the fundamental needs of the populace. Deendayal discussed the fundamental goods of society and highlighted the state’s role in achieving these objectives. He made an effort to develop a humanistic view of justice. The goal of governmental policies, in his opinion, ought to be the full development of the individual. Deendayal Upadhayaya was concerned with the basic necessities of all the marginalised groups in society, even though he never used the word “social justice” to refer to the struggles of the least fortunate. He supported the advancement of the last member of society and the state’s duty to provide for and meet everyone’s basic needs, regardless of caste or class. The focus of social justice is on economic, political, and social rights. He held that meeting the fundamental needs of the populace is the joint duty of the state and society. This essay aims to investigate Deendayal’s Integral Humanism philosophy’s social component. It is crucial to understand his ideas on the state, society and government in this context.
