Abstract:

In Assam the role of Satra is very important. Here Satra is divided into two parts, one is Vaishnav Satras and the other is Shakta Satras. Na-Gossain Satra is one of the shakta satra among the three shakta satras i.e Parbotiya, Mukolimuria and Pohumoria or Na-Gossain. Na Gossain satra of Kanugaon (now chutia gaon) of Golaghat district is rich in cultural activities and celebrate various types of festivals. Involvement of local people irrespective of caste, creed and religion in the cultural activities and festivals create communal harmony, unity and integrity. The role of Na-Gossain Satra cannot be denied for all round development of the society. But this Satra is not yet developed or has not been a tourist place yet for revenue earnings. Thus, this study makes an attempt to highlight the traditional culture of Na-Gossain Satra and festivals celebrated by the Satra, which maintain the communal harmony, unity and integrity of the society.
