The feminine psyche and sexual liberation: A study of Anaïs Nin’s diaries and erotic fiction

Author(s):

Shreya and Dr. Narender Kumar

Abstract:

The research paper examines Nin's personal experiences, relationships, and artistic representations, emphasizing her distinctive representation of female subjectivity, her acceptance of the unconscious, and the emancipation of suppressed impulses. Anaïs Nin's writings offer deep insight into the intricacies of feminine sexuality and identity. Nin's diaries and erotic literature function as a medium through which she explores and contests conventional ideas of femininity, desire, and sexual independence. Nin's intensely personal and experimental approach transcends the confines of sexual literature, providing a feminist perspective that interrogates society standards and delves into the individual in its most intimate expression. This paper analyzes how her narratives challenge the distinctions between the erotic and the intellectual, emphasising the Significance of sexual freedom as an essential component of the feminine psyche. The study sheds light on how Nin’s writing, rooted in her own experiences, becomes a tool of empowerment, offering a voice to suppressed sexualities and redefining notions of womanhood.
