Abstract:

The River Ghaggar is a seasonal river flowing through the states of Punjab, Haryana, and Rajasthan, has witnessed increasing pollution due to industrialization, urban runoff, and agricultural waste. This research paper presents the findings of pollution analysis conducted on various stretches of the Ghaggar River. Emphasis is placed on identifying the major pollutants, analyzing their sources, and evaluating the impacts on human health. Data from Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) reports, field surveys, and secondary studies have been used to highlight the seriousness of the issue and recommend appropriate interventions. investigated the health implications of consuming untreated river water in Sirsa and adjacent rural areas.
The study recorded a high prevalence of waterborne diseases like cholera, typhoid, and dysentery among local populations, especially during the post-monsoon season when pollution levels peak. A community health assessment in related districts observed a correlation between contaminated drinking water sources and increased cases of lead poisoning, particularly among children. The study noted symptoms such as delayed development, fatigue, and kidney issues, affirming the dangers of long-term exposure to polluted water.
